Rwanda TIN (Taxpayer Identification Number)

A TIN (Taxpayer Identification Number) in Rwanda is a unique taxpayer number issued by the Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) for tax-related activities. It is issued free of charge and is used by individuals, businesses, NGOs, and other legal entities for registration, declaration, payment, and tax administration processes.

What is a Rwanda TIN?

The Rwanda TIN is an official identification number assigned to a taxpayer by the tax administration. It is required for dealing with the Rwanda Revenue Authority and must be used in tax-related correspondence and compliance procedures.

Main Features

A Rwanda TIN is generally described as:

• Unique to each taxpayer
• Issued free of charge
• Mandatory for tax-related activities
• Used by both individuals and legal entities
• Integrated into the business registration process for companies

Who Needs a TIN?

A TIN is commonly required for:

• Individuals carrying out taxable activities
• Employees and self-employed persons in certain tax situations
• Companies and other legal entities
• NGOs and organizations with tax obligations
• Foreign investors and registered businesses operating in Rwanda

What is it Used For?

• PAYE (Pay As You Earn)
• Withholding Tax

• Other tax declarations, payments, and compliance procedures

How to Get a TIN

Individuals and entities can obtain a TIN through the Rwanda Revenue Authority. For businesses, the TIN is often generated during the business registration process through the Rwanda Development Board (RDB), where a single registration flow may provide the business registration code and tax identification number together.

Business Registration and TIN Integration

Rwanda’s business registration system is designed as a one-stop process. When a business is registered, the company code may also serve as the tax identification number and, in some cases, the social security number, depending on the registration route and entity type.

How to Find an Existing TIN

If you already have a TIN, you can search for it online through the RRA E-Tax service. The portal allows TIN recognition using:

• National ID
• Passport
