TIN Canada (CA)

In Canada, the TIN for individuals is the same as Social Insurance Number (SIN) for individual’s resident in Canada. In case of Entities the TIN is the Business Number (BN) or for Trusts the TIN assumes the Trust Account Number (TUN).

To validate a tax identification number (TIN) from Canada, the TIN must be placed on top of it, which must obey the following format:

For Individuals (TIN)

The TIN / SIN assumes the following format:
• NNNNNNNNNNN (Total of 9 digits)

N identifies that it must be a numeric digit.

For Entities (TIN)

The TIN / BN assumes the following format:
• NNNNNNNNNLLNNNN (Total of 15 digits)

N identifies that it must be a numeric digit.
L identifies that it must be a letter.

For Trusts (TIN)

The TIN / TUN assumes the following format:
• TNNNNNNNN (Total of 9 digits)

N identifies that it must be a numeric digit.
T identifies that it must be a fixed letter “T”.

After validation, additional information on the TIN /BN / TUN introduced will be made available
